Teeth Whitening
What is Tooth Whitening?

Tooth whitening is a safe, effective cosmetic dental treatment designed to lighten the colour of your teeth and enhance your smile. At our practice, we use the renowned Boutique Whitening system, which uses custom‑made trays to ensure even distribution of the whitening gel and beautifully consistent results. This personalised approach helps you achieve a brighter, more radiant smile with comfort and precision.

The Tooth Whitening Process

Our whitening treatment is carried out by all our clinicians and involves three appointments to ensure the best possible outcome.

-
Suitability Assessment and Impressions
-
Consultation: We begin with a thorough examination to confirm you are suitable for whitening. We assess the health of your teeth and gums, discuss your dental history, and talk through your whitening goals.
-
Impressions: If suitable, we take detailed impressions of your teeth. These are used to create your custom‑made whitening trays, ensuring a perfect fit and optimal results.
-
-
Tray Fitting and Demonstration
-
Fitting: Once your trays are ready, you return for a fitting appointment to ensure they sit comfortably and securely.
-
Demonstration: Your clinician will show you how to apply the whitening gel correctly and provide full instructions for home use.
-
Shade Recording: We record your starting tooth shade so we can monitor your progress accurately.
-
-
Review and Shade Assessment
-
Review: After completing your at‑home whitening, you return for a follow‑up appointment so we can assess your results and address any questions.
-
Shade Assessment: We take a second shade measurement to compare with your original shade and evaluate the effectiveness of your treatment.
-
Whitening Options
We primarily offer Boutique Whitening Night Kits, which require wearing the trays for a minimum of 5 hours, typically overnight. For those who prefer daytime whitening, we also offer daytime kits, worn for a minimum of 2 hours.
Important Considerations
Whitening Does Not Change the Colour of Restorations

It’s important to note that tooth whitening does not whiten crowns, bridges, veneers, or fillings. These materials do not respond to whitening gel.
If you are considering anterior (front) fillings, we always recommend whitening first, so we can match any new fillings to your desired final shade. This ensures a seamless, natural result.
Possible Side Effects
While whitening is generally very safe, some patients may experience:
-
Gum Irritation – usually mild and temporary
-
Tooth Sensitivity – often short‑lived and resolves after treatment
Your clinician will guide you on how to minimise these effects for a comfortable experience.
