About Us

OUR SERVICES

Routine Exams

Why do I need a dental check-up?

A check-up allows your dentist to assess your dental health and see if you have any dental problems. Leaving problems untreated could make them more difficult to treat in the future, so it's best to deal with problems early, or, if possible, prevent them altogether.

What happens during a dental check-up?

At each check-up, the dentist will;

examine your teeth, gums and mouth

ask about your general health and any problems or concerns you may have with your teeth, gums or mouth.

Discuss good oral hygiene and what you can do to maintain this.

Discuss any treatment that you may need and when you need to come back to see the dentist.

How often should I have a dental check-up?

Depending on what level of risk you are at developing dental problems you next dental check-up could be between 3 months and 2 years. The higher risk you are the more often you will need to visit the dentist for regular check-ups.

Dental Fillings

Fillings are used to repair a fracture or cavity in the tooth. We offer a variety of fillings on the NHS such as Amalgam, Composite and Glass Inomer.

The type of filling material used will depend on the tooth and the size of the cavity or fracture.

Alternatively, we offer white cosmetic fillings on a private basis this could be for a number of reasons such as;

  • closing a gap,

  • altering the shape of a tooth,

  • replacing old grey fillings.

Dental Hygiene

The Manor Surgery offers a range of services including AIR-FLOW, Scale and Polishes, Periodontal Treatment and Perio chips. All these are available PRIVATLEY at our surgery unless it is included in your NHS treatment.

What is AIR-FLOW?

AIR-FLOW® is a brightening technique which gently cleans and polishes the teeth using non-abrasive technology. It removes plaque, stains and discoloration using a combination of water, compressed air and fine powder particles.

The innovative spray technology can access all those hard to reach areas that traditional scaling cannot. It effectively removes the damaging biofilm that develops when dental plaque is colonised by bacteria but leaves the surface of your teeth intact.

What is a Scale & Polish?

A combination of handheld instruments and an ultrasonic scraper is used to remove the deposits of plaque and tartar. Then a polish is given polishing removes minor stains leaving teeth bright and shiny.

What Is Periodontal Treatment?

Periodontal treatment is the specialist cleaning of your teeth and gums to help control the bacteria that cause gum disease. Periodontal treatment is given over several appointments and the number of appointments you will need depends on how severe and widespread your disease is.

During periodontal treatment we will take measurements of the probing depths of the pockets between the teeth and gum. Then we remove the tartar (calculus and plaque) caused by bacteria from above the gum line by cleaning (scaling) the teeth. If the disease has already destroyed some of the support for your teeth, we will also remove bacteria and calculus from under the gum by gently cleaning under the gum. In severe cases local anaesthetic is used so that the patient is more comfortable if they suffer from sensitivity. Sometimes antibiotics are given after treatment to help fight any infection and help with healing.

What is a Perio Chip?

PerioChip® is a unique biodegradable small thin wafer chip, which contains 2.5 mg of Chlorhexidine Gluconate that has been shown to be an effective and generally well tolerated treatment for active gum disease and pockets with depths greater than 5mm

Dentures

Dentures are removable prosthetic devices that fit over the gum to replace gaps of missing teeth in the mouth. There are two types of dentures

  • Full dentures which would cover all of the upper arch and/or lower arch.

  • Partial Dentures which would replace 1 to a few different teeth on the upper and/or lower arch

We offer both Private & NHS dentures.

NHS dentures are covered under the Band 3 payment. NHS standard dentures are made of a hard plastic called acrylic which are specially moulded to fit your mouth. We also try to match the tooth shade as closely to your own tooth colour to give a more natural look.

We also offer a range of Private dentures.

Crowns and Veneers

A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over your tooth. It’s a permanent solution for a damaged tooth and once it’s fixed in place, a crown will look, feel and function just like any other tooth. Crowns are more robust and hardwearing and will provide better support to the existing tooth if a normal filling is not suitable.

Crowns can be made from ceramic or metal. Ceramic is a porcelain tooth coloured material and metal can be gold or metal alloy. Different materials are used depending on where the crown is placed.

We offer both NHS and PRIVATE crowns. If you need a crown you can discuss with your dentist which type would be most suitable.

A veneer is a thin, custom made shell that is bonded to the front surface of a tooth to improve their appearance. A veneer is generally used to disguise discoloured, stained, crooked, misshapen or chipped teeth.

Veneers are made from a strong porcelain, so they are durable and long lasting. Different shades can be chosen whether you are wanting it to blend with another tooth or wanting to brighten your front teeth either way the porcelain shades offer a very natural finish.

Veneers are classed as a PRIVATE cosmetic treatment but on the very rare occasion they are available on the NHS depending why you need a veneer.

Emergency Dentistry

We aim to see all emergency NHS patients within 48 hours from your first point of call (usually this is when you call the surgery) We are extremely busy and have limited appointment slots so please bare in mind that an emergency is classed as

  • Swelling of your gum, cheek or face which is spreading. If the swelling is spreading down your neck, up to your eye or along the floor of your mouth PLEASE CALL 111

  • Severe pain which is causing a lack of sleep or concentration

  • Mouth ulcers which haven’t healed after two weeks

  • Bleeding after a recent extraction which is not stopping after biting on gauze.

  • Been following self-help advice for your problem but the pain is getting worse

  • A broken tooth, which is causing pain or cutting your cheek/tongue that you can not tolerate.

  • Knocked-out a tooth

  • facial trauma

During an emergency appointment the dentist will do an assessment and might possibly take an X-RAY to diagnose your issue and decide whether you need further emergency treatment such as;

  • Extraction

  • Temporary or permanent filling

  • Prescription for antibiotics or other medication.

The Dentists do offer PRIVATE emergency appointments to patients and non-patients of the practice at their discretion please call the practice to enquire.

Teeth Whitening

Here at the Manor Surgery we offer Philips Zoom At Home Whitening.

Tooth enamel can become discoloured or yellow over time, whitening is the process of bleaching or lightening the tooth enamel. This is achieved by using bleach and bleaching trays either for a maximum of 2 hours or overnight depending on the product that is advised.

Firstly you will need to attend a consultation/examination appointment where we can discuss your suitability and he benefits of whitening. You may require treatment or hygiene cleaning prior to starting whitening treatment.

Secondly impressions are taken of your teeth and these are sent to a laboratory for your custom whitening trays to be made.

Then you will come back for another visit where we will give you your trays and go over how to apply the whitening and we can discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

Keep whitening at home for 2 weeks. You should notice a difference in just 3 days.

Please contact the practice for more information.
